Heart Health through Good Nutrition

Heart Health through Good Nutrition

Stroke and Heart Disease are America’s number 3 and number 1 killers.  Eating a healthy, varied diet reduces most of the controllable risk factors for these diseases.  Learn tips to help attain or maintain a healthy weight, cholesterol level, blood pressure, and blood sugar level.  Registered dietitian, Melissa Janes with Chickahominy Health District, will cover recommendations regarding food groups, fiber, healthy fats, sugars, sodium, and alcohol.  You’ll learn cooking and shopping tips to help make the smart choice the easy choice.  You’ll be equipped to make simple changes which can help with weight loss, if needed, and with decreasing saturated & trans fats in your diet.  You’ll gain knowledge about portion sizes & label reading and learn healthy flavorful herbs & spices which can replace some of the sodium in your diet.  Treat your Heart to this fun & interactive sharing session during Heart Month!
